The artwork for the cover of "Habitat Annihilation: Humans Have Changed The Earth, Now The Earth Will Change Humans" is by SunRose Ironshell.
"The Human Heart Floral" - in honor of the Dakota floral design and the growth it takes to bloom. Art of the Great Plains is best visualized through the lens of nature. This design style is an abstraction, a simplified geometric interpretation of the natural world.
Per SunRose, “This is my heart flower, showing love for humanity. We are Relatives as long as we are residents of Mother Earth, we share the same foundation that builds all life.”
The design starts with a purring heart that blossoms into a traditional Dakota floral and the heart grows. With each beat it creates buds that reach to the universe, symbolized by the eight pointed stars. Wichozani is the Lakota word for health, a state of being in balance and harmony within your mind, body, and spirit but also with the sun, moon and Mother Earth.
